Medical aspirants have many queries regarding the NEET SS 2017 Exam, since it is going to be conducted in June 2017 for the first time by NBE. Here in this blog, we would like to share some important details regarding the exam.
NEET SS is an eligibility-cum-ranking examination which is prescribed as a single entrance examination to gain entry into various DM/M.Ch courses in accordance with the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Act, 2016. NEET SS is conducted by National Board of Examinations (NBE) with an objective to provide a common national standard for evaluation of minimum level of attainment of the knowledge and competencies of Post Graduate and Post Doctoral Training.

Why NEET SS is conducted?
NEET-SS is conducted to gain admission in Super Specialty courses for the academic session of 2017 which include:
- All DM/MCh Courses in the country including all Private Medical Colleges/ Institutions/ Universities/Deemed Universities.
- All DM/MCh courses at Armed Forces Medical Services Institutions.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Candidates who are in possession of recognized Post Graduate Medical Degree (MD/MS/DNB)/ Provisional Pass Certificate or an equivalent recognized qualification or apt to be in possession by July 15, 2017 as per the eligibility qualifications for Super Specialty courses.
- Candidates who are qualifying and getting the results of their MD/MS/DNB qualifications after July 15, 2017 shall be rejected.
- Candidates found to be ineligible at any stage of NEET SS will not be permitted to appear in the examination. In an unlikely event of any ineligible candidate appearing and/or being successful in NEET SS, the results/candidature of such candidate shall be cancelled and/or are deemed to be cancelled.
- Registration with M.C.I./State Medical Council/ is necessary and its documentary proof should be delivered at the time of counseling.
NEET SS 2017: Application Procedure
- Applicants will be required to visit the official website to register for the exam.
- Registration will involve selection of examination center, uploading of scanned photograph and payment of application fees.
- Offline applications or printed copy will not be accepted.
- Online Applications for the examination should be completed by the prescribed last date.
- At the end of the Registration and scheduling process, Admit card cum –Confirmation slip will be generated.
- Candidate is required to bring the admit card to the Test centre along with identity proof documents.
- Candidate should make certain that all information entered during the online registration process is correct. Candidates producing false or fabricated information will not be considered and they may be further debarred from appearing in any future examinations.
Examination fee:
- The examination fee of NEET SS 2017 is Rs. 3750/-
- This examination fees shall neither be refunded nor carried forward if the application for NEET SS 2017 is rejected or candidature is found to be ineligible or candidate is unable to appear in the examination.
- The prescribed examination fee should be deposited via payment gateway provided using a Credit Card or a Debit Card issued by banks in India or through Internet Banking.
Exam pattern:
- Total number of question: 200
- Duration: 2½ hours or 150 minutes
- 25% negative marking for every incorrect answers.
- No marks will be deducted for unattempted questions.
- Separate question paper will be provided for different specialties.
- Candidates can appear only for a particular specialty at a time.
- The validity of the result of NEET SS 2017 shall be only for the present admission session i.e. 2017 admission session for DM/M.Ch courses and it cannot be carried forward for the next session of admission for DM/M.Ch courses.
- A Demo test is also available for the candidates. Candidates registered for NEET SS can undertake the Demo test before the actual test window. It is a sample of computer-based exam, intended to make the candidates acquainted with the navigation and functionality of NEET SS. It includes a tutorial on using the different features of the exam like moving between screens, selecting, de-selecting, marking and reviewing responses etc. The Demo test for NEET SS is now available on NEET SS website.
Reservation:
Reservation of seats is not available for SC/ST/OBC candidates in NEET SS 2017 in accordance with the judgment of the Constitution Bench of Supreme Court of India Writ Petition © No. 350 of 1998.

Essential documents to be carried to the test centre:
- Candidates must bring a printed copy of the Admit Card with Photo pasted on it.
- Candidates must bring the photocopy of Permanent and Provisional MCI registration
- Photo Id proof (Permanent and Provisional MCI registration) e PAN Card Voter ID card, or Driving License or Passport, or Aadhaar card (e-Aadhaar card is also considered but it should be of good quality colour print out with clearly visible photograph).
