Here is an important piece of news for NEET SS aspirants, in matter regarding the 3rd round of counseling for NEET SS which was heard in Supreme Court on October 11, 2017 in writ petition (C) 743/2017, Dr. Himank Goyal & ORS Vs Union of India.
During the course of hearing, Hon’ble Supreme Court directed that there will be 3rd round of counseling which shall be conducted by DGHS to fill over 500 seats that lie vacant, details of which will be shortly published along with the court order.

Moreover, the court has stated that the aspirants who will not join the courses, despite exercising their options, will have to face the penalty.
The court order has been the consequence of the petitioner’s efforts who alleged that a total of 1,969 seats were displayed on the website while only 1,141 seats were available during the 1st round of counseling. Also, many students did not take their seats even after securing these seats in the first round.
According to the petitioner, Dr Senthilnathan who is an Assistant Professor in general surgery from Madras Medical College, the judge gave the consent for conducting the merit based counseling till October 24, 2017. In case a candidate fails to join institute even after getting seat, he/she will have to face the consequence of being disqualified for two years from both the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) and NEET SS exam.
The decision of conduct of 3rd round of counseling has been welcomed as it holds another valuable opportunity for the career of many NEET SS aspirants who failed to secure a seat in the second round of counseling because of the candidates who secured the seats but didn’t joined.
